Q: How do I know if I have hard water?
A: The easiest way to find out is to search your county or region name followed by “hard water” on Google — for example, “Los Angeles County hard water.” You’ll often find maps or local water quality reports that list your area’s hardness level in parts per million (ppm) or grains per gallon (gpg). Anything above 120 ppm (or 7 gpg) is considered hard water, which means your shower water likely contains higher levels of calcium and magnesium that can leave buildup on the scalp and hair. If that’s the case, I strongly recommend using a shower filter to help remove minerals and protect your hair and scalp health.

Q: How does hard water affect scalp and hair health?
A: Mineral buildup clogs follicles, irritates the scalp, and coats the hair shaft, preventing moisture absorption. Filtering your water helps reverse these effects.
